MUSKETEER CASE STUDY
Musketeer Solutions Ltd has a long association with Research and Development working closely with the Defence Scientific and Technology Laboratories (DSTL). Using a de-commissioned Sentry E-3D aircraft, Musketeer led an extensive research programme to examine the effects of ageing and environmental degradation on aircraft systems and structure, some of which has resulted in improvements to military regulation. Musketeer is recognised as an industry leader in understanding the challenges faced by ageing air systems. and is now working with QinetiQ in support of the Defence Equipment and Support Airworthiness Team to standardise and optimise the future approach to the management of airworthiness on ageing air systems.
On completion of the research work, a further innovation led to the surplus Sentry E-3D aircraft being converted to a training platform for simulated emergency scenarios. The concept was develolped into the Waddington Emergencies Synthetic Trainer (WEST). The WEST was a cost-effective alternative to the disposal of the aircraft improving aircrew training in a controlled environment whilst decoupling emergency training from the operating fleet increasing aircraft availability.
